The nights are spent ‘sleeping wild’ in basic dome tents, allowing for an authentic sense of immersion into the wildness of the Okavango Delta. Pelo means ‘heart’ – a fitting name indeed, given the island’s heart shape and location deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta.  While poling quietly around the channels, guests have the chance to see elephant, hippo, crocodile and lechwe, as well as the exciting and rare sitatunga. Birding is outstanding, with specials like lesser jacana, slaty egret and wattled crane readily spotted. (B,L,D daily)

After breakfast at Xigera, transfer by boat to Chief’s Island. On arrival a vehicle will meet you and take you to the much revered Mombo Camp. Spend the next two days exploring the wildlife-rich area. Mombo is the site of Botswana’s reintroduction to the wild of both black and white rhino. The relocations, combined with recent hydrological changes in the area have seen both species expand their range and settle down well in the area. The concession is attractive, productive and diverse with floodplains, wooded islands, acacia woodland and Okavango waterways. Herbivore densities – especially of red lechwe, plains zebra, giraffe and impala – are extremely high and this supports one of Africa’s highest density of lion populations. Spotted hyena and leopard are other frequently seen carnivores. Birding is excellent with a great mix of water birds (wattled crane, long-toed lapwing) as well as some species associated with Kalahari thornveld such as crimson-breasted shrike and southern pied babbler.  (B,L,D daily)
