After a short road transfer, you will arrive at Tubu Tree Camp in the early afternoon in time for your first safari activity. Early morning and afternoon game drives. Hunda Island is the largest stretch of dry land in this water-inundated area, affording diverse game viewing opportunities. The area’s high concentrations of zebra and wildebeest attract the big predators such as lion, leopard and spotted hyena. While birding, look for impressive with species such as crimson-breasted shrike, Dickinson’s kestrel and Meyer’s parrot. (B,L,D daily)

  • Day

Okavango Delta: Jao Concession, Pelo Camp

After a light breakfast at Tubu Tree, depart on foot for the Tubu Boat Station arriving in the late morning. From here transfer by boat and mokoro to the intimate and remote island that is Pelo Camp. A true water camp, Pelo is all about mokoro and boating. The nights are spent ‘sleeping wild’ in basic dome tents, allowing for an authentic sense of immersion into the wildness of the Okavango Delta. Pelo means ‘heart’ – a fitting name indeed, given the island’s heart shape and location deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta.  While poling quietly around the channels, guests have the chance to see elephant, hippo, crocodile and lechwe, as well as the exciting and rare sitatunga. Birding is outstanding, with specials like lesser jacana, slaty egret and wattled crane readily spotted. (B,L,D daily)

  • Day

Okavango Delta: Xigera Concession, Xigera Camp

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic and thrilling helicopter ride over the shimmering landscape to Xigera, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon safari activity. The camp is 100% solar powered. Your activities at Xigera typically include mokoro and motorboat outings. Game drives are seasonal, dependent on the water levels. Mammal sightings include the water-loving red lechwe, spotted-necked otter, elephant and tsessebe along with the elusive sitatunga. Predators include leopard and spotted hyena. Xigera is a delight for birdwatchers with specials such as Pel’s fishing-owl, African skimmer, greater swamp warbler and wattled crane occurring here. (B,L,D)

  • Day

Okavango Delta: Mombo Concession, Mombo Camp

After breakfast at Xigera, transfer by boat to Chief’s Island. On arrival a vehicle will meet you and take you to the much revered Mombo Camp. Spend the next two days exploring the wildlife-rich area. Mombo is the site of Botswana’s reintroduction to the wild of both black and white rhino. The relocations, combined with recent hydrological changes in the area have seen both species expand their range and settle down well in the area. The concession is attractive, productive and diverse with floodplains, wooded islands, acacia woodland and Okavango waterways. Herbivore densities – especially of red lechwe, plains zebra, giraffe and impala – are extremely high and this supports one of Africa’s highest density of lion populations. Spotted hyena and leopard are other frequently seen carnivores. Birding is excellent with a great mix of water birds (wattled crane, long-toed lapwing) as well as some species associated with Kalahari thornveld such as crimson-breasted shrike and southern pied babbler.  (B,L,D daily)

Okavango Delta: Chitabe Concession: Chitabe Camp

After a morning safari at Mombo, transfer by light aircraft to Chitabe Camp. Spend your final two days on safari enjoying the classic Delta scenery and diverse wildlife of Chitabe. Chitabe Concession is a diverse mix of Okavango waterways and marshlands and the dryer Kalahari habitats. Due to its prime location, Chitabe’s wildlife sightings include giraffe, buffalo, red lechwe, elephant and great opportunities to see large predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena and wild dog. Birds abound in this area, and while exploring you can expect to see specials such as southern pied babbler as well as rufous-bellied heron.  (B,L,D daily)
