South India Signature Parks Vivid Culture & Diverse Wildlife
Located on the Kerala border in the Coorg district in the western part of Karnataka, Nagarhole National Park is an area of lush rolling plantations of pepper and coffee and exciting wildlife! Established in 1954, the park spans 400 square miles, and is home to as many as 225 different bird species, wild dog, Indian gaur, barking deer, sambar, sloth bear, crocodiles and elephants.
Together these two sanctuaries are home to an incredible range of flora and fauna, including several endangered species. Established in 1973, these reserves are part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve – a unique ecosystem encompassing six contiguous wildlife sanctuaries – created to protect the extraordinary biodiversity of the last surviving tracts of tropical rainforest and deciduous forests of the Western Ghats. The parks are home to tigers, elephants, leopard, Indian gaur, sloth bear and wild boar.
Ranganthittoo Bird Sanctuary The Ranganthittoo Bird Sanctuary is made of tiny islands that are home to a variety of birds. Migrating birds come from as far as Siberia, and the bird life here includes spoon bills, open-bill storks, white ibis, little egrets, darters, pond herons, cattle egrets, cormorants, wild ducks and peafowl.
