Panama Canal 1-Day Pre-Tour Extension
After Balboa crossed the isthmus in 1513, becoming the first European to see the Pacific Ocean, the dream of building a canal to connect the Pacific and the Caribbean was set in motion. That dream became a reality four hundred years later, when the Panama Canal opened. This modern marvel is now such an integral part of shipping that ships are measured in terms of their ability to travel through the Canal’s locks. Take advantage of this one-day extension to embark on a partial transit of the Panama Canal.
Please Note: This journey will be escorted by local guides only.
Day 1 U.S. / Panama City Fly from the U.S. to Panama City, where you spend tonight at the five-star El Panama Hotel.
Day 2 Panama Canal / Gamboa Board a ship in Lake Gatun for a dramatic partial passage of the Panama Canal’s Gaillard Cut and Pedro Miguel and Miraflores Locks. The Panama Canal’s narrowest portion, the Gaillard or “Culebra” cut is an eight-mile channel cut through solid rock. Meet the rest of our group at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, where you can relax in your private hammock. (B,L)
