Day 8 Punta Arenas / Embark Mare Australis After a short tour of Punta Arenas, we embark the Mare Australis. (B,D)
Day 9 Ainsworth Bay / Tucker Islet At dawn we continue navigating through Almirantazgo Sound and arrive near Marinelli Glacier in Ainsworth Bay. Walk through the marvelous Magellanic forst to discover a beaver dam. On the beach, observe a colony of elephant seals. Later visit Tucker Islet, where we view colonies of Magellanic penguins and cormorants from our Zodiac landing craft. (B,L,D)
Day 10 Pia Glacier / Glacier Alley Navigate through the Beagle Channel to Pia Bay, where we disembark near Pia Glacier. Take a short hike to a lookout point with a spectacular view of the entire glacier tongue, stretching from high in the moutnains all the way to the sea. After this unforgettable experience, we sail again along the northwest arm of the Beagle Channel through majestic Glacier Alley, seeing the Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and Holland glaciers. Day 11 Cape Horn / Wulaia Bay We sail through the Beagle and Murray channels to reach Cape Horn National Park, where (weather permitting) we disembark. Cape Horn, on Hornos Island, is a sheer, rocky promontory, A visit to this mythical place known as the "End of the Earth" is a singular privilege. The park was declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 2005. In the afternoon, we go ashore in historic Wulaia Bay, once the site of the region's largest aboriginal settlement. This area is also renowned for the mesmerizing beauty of its vegetation and goegraphy. We walk through a Magellanic forest of lengas, coigues, canelos, ferns and other native vegetation. (B,L,D)
Days 12 & 13 Ushuaia / Santiago / U.S. We disembark the Mare Australis in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, where we tour this city. Fly back to Santiago to connect with flights back to the U.S. (Day 12: B, Meals Aloft; Day 13: Meals Aloft)
