Day 6 - April 16

Iquitos / Lima / Cusco

We return by boat to Iquitos this morning and transfer to the airport for our morning flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, we tour historic Lima visiting the Cathedral, Plaza de Armas and the monastery and catacombs of the Igelsia de San Francisco with lunch in a local restaurant. Return to the airport for our flight to Cusco. Head into the historic Urubamba Valley and spend tonight at hotel Sol y Luna, our home for two nights. (B,L,D)

Day 7 – April 17

Urubamba Valley

Explore the fortress of Ollantaytambo. The expertly fashioned walkways, canals and pools are a testament to the builders' unrivaled skill. Enjoy a traditional lunch before a show by Peruvian Paso Fino horses at Wayra Ranch. Continuing across the valley toward Cusco, tour Sacsayhuamán — a huge fortress of massive stones which zigzags across the side of the mountain. Archaeologists estimate that an army of thousands of workers may have spent as much as seven decades hauling the immense stone blocks and building this complex. (B,L,D)

Day 8 – April 18

Urubamba / Machu Picchu / Cusco

From the Ollanta Station, board the train for a scenic ride into the mountains to Machu Picchu. Explore the ruins with our guide, who points out the significance of the stone structures, temples and plazas. This impressive ruin, hidden for 400 years by semi-tropical jungle, lies in a saddle with the peaks of Machu Picchu, "Old Mountain," and Huayna Picchu, "Young Mountain" rising dramatically on either side. This evening we return to Cusco and overnight at the JW Marriott. (B,L,D)

Day 9 – April 19

Cusco / Lima / Depart

Spend the morning strolling the streets on a Cusco tour, exploring the Koricancha — also known as Santo Domingo, Santa Catalina Convent and the Cathedral. The Church and Convent of Santo Domingo are beautiful examples of Spanish architecture superimposed on Inca construction — the complex was built over the Koricancha, a temple dedicated to the sun, the Inca's most important god. The walls were covered in sheets of gold studded with emeralds and turquoise. Enjoy touring Awanacancha, a weaving center dedicated to teaching traditional textile arts of the Andes. Transfer to the airport where we board flights to Lima. Enjoy access to the VIP Lounge prior to your overnight flight home. (B,L)
