Happy Anniversary to our Amazon Partner WWF
Protecting and conserving the Amazon, a place two-thirds the size of the U.S., is a big job. At International Expeditions we’re thrilled to have teamed up with WWF for years to provide conservation focused nature travel to this precious region – and to other destinations within Peru. And it’s a special honor to wish a happy anniversary to our travel partner WWF as they celebrate 50 years protecting the world’s wildlife and wild places.
Why is WWF’s work in the Amazon rainforest so important? There’s a clear link between the health of the Amazon and the health of the planet. The rainforests, which contain 90-140 billion metric tons of carbon, help stabilize local and global climate.
WWF has been working in the Amazon for 40 years and is at the forefront of efforts to protect the forests, species and people that call it home. By engaging local communities and partnering with governments, WWF is helping to identify solutions that bridge the needs of economic development and conservation.
The Amazon Basin contains:
- One in ten known species on Earth
- 1.4 billion acres of dense forests, half of the planet’s remaining tropical forests
- 4,100 miles of winding rivers, the source of almost one-fifth of all free-flowing fresh water on Earth
- About 40% percent of South America
Put IE and WWF’s 82 years of combined expertise to work as you explore the Amazon.
