Guests on the April 17 Galapagos Voyage witnessed one of nature's most extraordinary fireworks displays - a volcanic eruption! And while the eruption on Fernandina Island has garnered international news coverage, IE guest Dale Ghent captured these images and the emotion behind this sight perfectly.

"A battle unfolded in front of us... a battle involving primordial forces, one that has gone on since eons past, and will continue for eons more. The struggle of fire versus water, unrelenting in their assaults on each other, filled our view."

For Expedition Leader Boli Sanchez, this is the first eruption he's seen in almost two decades of guiding!

So just to recap, on this intimate adventure aboard the Evolution, not only will you swim, snorkel, hike, get nose to nose with wildlife, kayak, climb ancient volcanoes, eat more than you thought possible, and share the beach with sea lions — if you're lucky, you might even experience a bit of the archipelago's fiery origins!

I had the pleasure of going

I had the pleasure of going to that Galapagos last year. While I couldn't have imagined a more breathtaking place, it is evidently more spectacular during an eruption.

Thank you for sharing these images!
